Today:

I have been a birth and postpartum doula for the past 10 years. Five years ago I became certified as a Childbirth Educator, which aligns well with my teaching background and allows me to provide high quality prenatal education to the families I support. I absolutely adore my birth work and the relationships that I have with my clients. My husband and I have four daughters, ages 15-19 years old, two lovable rescue dogs, and we live in Littleton, CO.

How did I become interested in birth work?

I was introduced to the concept of a birth doula in 2004, before the birth of my first child, Hope. The Hypnobirthing Childbirth Education series I participated in was taught by a woman whom I would later ask to support me during labor and delivery (This was at 39+ weeks, so it’s never too late to hire a birth doula!). I was able to have the unmedicated birth I’d envisioned and hoped for, even though my baby girl was positioned “sunny side up” (Occiput Posterior). My doula deserves so much of the credit for this gratifying outcome…as she was integral in helping me overcome the fears that came up in the later stages of labor, and letting go of these fears in the moment allowed me to “let go” of my baby. I am forever grateful to her for showing me my strength.

What is my wish for my clients?

It is my goal to empower birthing women and their partners to step into the experience of giving birth as confidently and as fearlessly as possible.

How do I support my birthing and/or postpartum clients?

  • Educating families prenatally with customized, private childbirth education

  • Listening to what clients want and helping them to become intentional about creating their “ideal birth experience”

  • Discussing fears and anxieties that birthing women and partners have and offering options and strategies to relieve these

  • Brainstorming strategies, techniques, and methods that help birthing women and partners feel safe, loved, and protected

  • Providing a judgement-free space that encourages clients to tune in to their own natural knowing around parenting

  • Sharing a multitude of resources and referrals, depending on what clients want and need

  • Lactation Support to help make breastfeeding doable and enjoyable

  • Encouraging families as they navigate the often challenging and wonderfully gratifying work called '“parenting”

  • Modeling infant soothing methods and teaching practical ways to make the postpartum period easier

  • Nutrition and meal-prep support
